Good people
Needless to say I wanted them to pull the carbs back off & call me to come back when they were off. Once they called me back to come up there I saw a very small hole in the carb clogged with gunk. They didn't seem to happy when I pointed it out and suggested they clean them again.
Please save yourself the frustration of dealing with this place, EVER. I have heard nothing but BAD things from everyone I have talked to about this place, since taking my bike there! Wish I would have asked around a bit before hand.
Before I took my bike to Bob's I previously had any work done at Richmond Superbike. I was always disappointed in the turn around time to fix/do maintenance on my bike, the customer service, and the PRICES at Richmond Superbike. When a friend of mine recommended Bob's, I quickly gave them a call as I was looking for a honest and reliable place to take my bike. Although it is a little bit of a hike to get the bike out there, it was all well worth it. The staff out there were really laid back and honest about the motorcycles needs. The turn around time they gave me was always very reasonable and I was never contacted saying the bike was not ready past they point they had indicated! The pricing is very affordable and beats both Richmond Superbike and the Honda Houses pricing on labor. All in all, you are going to have a very positive experience in my opinion.
After two weeks they called to tell me they had it running but it wasn't running very well, I went there to hear how it was running, while standing next to it listening to it run I looked down and there was a PUDDLE of gas underneath of it coming from the same place it had been. One of their "mechanics" then brought over a claw hammer & started tapping on it. I was told sometimes after a rebuild that happens...
I called and spoke to BOB, the "owner" over the phone to get a price quote. I wanted to have the carburetors taken off, cleaned and synchronized. I have a 1980 Honda CM400T with dual carbs. BOB quoted me $50.00 per carb to do this plus parts, he estimated the parts price at $100.00 and I guess added another $50.00 for synchronizing them. His total over the phone estimate was 250.00. Sounded great, so I made arrangements to have the bike taken there.
Very honest and personable business. If you're willing to listen, he (Bob) will go out of his way to help you understand current bike issues or mechanical systems. I learned a good deal from him while he was working on my bike. Whenever he did identify issues he always made it a point to call me and ask me how I wanted to proceed. There were no hidden charges and I easily could have seen myself being charged much more at another shop for the same scenario.
Upon our arrival delivering the bike to them I spoke with TOMMY, even though BOB was there. I told Tommy what estimate Bob had given me and he then proceeded to tell me it would be 5 hours labor at $50.00 an hour to do the work.. PLUS parts. I should have taken the bike & left then. Instead I agreed and told them to go ahead. I told Tommy the bike was leaking gas from under the bike while running sitting still. They told me it would be a week or two.
Where to begin with how horrible my experience with this place has been. If I could have given a zero star I would.
Four weeks later and countless times I have had to call them about the status of my bike I am getting ready to go pick it up and it is STILL not running "right" according to them. They are saying it has to do with the ignition system and want additional diagnostic to figure it out. Yet they say they have pulled the carbs and cleaned them three times. I am almost CERTAIN the problem remains in the carbs but I am fed up and am going to get the bike & take it to a REPUTABLE shop.
I have come to Bob and the crew multiple times for bike work and I have always been impressed. I also have a family membership to the Charles City Dirt Riders club and it is absolutely top notch. It is the most well maintained motocross track and trail system in Virginia.
